Another Aussie Christmas book ( who says there's no Australian books based around Christmas ?!)
Bush Christmas was first published in 1947 with the movie of the same name starring Chips Rafferty and directed by Ralph Smart.
A poor farming family is struggling to make ends meet and are pinning their hopes on their racehorse Prince to win the New Years Day race.
When the children mention Prince to a couple of strangers who steal Prince the day before the big race, the search and chase begins through the rugged Australian countryside on horseback.
Of course it's got a happy ending, it's Christmas themed after all, but it's a good, old fashioned fun story that has kept on entertaining down through the years.
The movie was remade in 1983 (sometimes known as Prince and The Great Race) with Nicole Kidman in her first feature film.
Whether you read the book or watch either of the movies, Bush Christmas is a classic to have upon your bookshelves or DVD rack.
