The Twelve Days of Christmas
This is fun book with a very Australian twist on the old Christmas song.
First published in 1992 and reprinted almost every year since including 2007, June Williams' poetry coupled with her take on the original lyrics makes for an Aussie classic any child ( or adult) would delight in finding in their Christmas stocking on December 25.
It begins with an emu stuck up a gum tree, progresses through several native animals but, unlike the original where the recipient was no doubt driven up the wall with the drummers drumming and the lords a'leaping, there is a happy ending for all concerned.
John McIntosh has illustrated it throughout and captured the Australian fauna with a fine eye to detail but also managed to inject the poetry's humour into each drawing.
Another good investment as a gift for the festive season.
