Australian Cavalcade, first published in 1962 for the Melbourne Church of England Grammar School, is still relevant today as when it was first printed.
P.R Smith has collected this anthology of Australian prose that reflected the changing scene of Australia from its earliest time to the 1960's.
Divided into 4 main groups dealing with bush, towns, war and peace, it covers a wide range of subjects and time periods; from a bush cricket match in country Victoria to the larrikin pushes of Sydney to a soldier writing home in 1794, this innocent looking book has a great deal to offer all ages.
The 17 authors are well respected also including Elizabeth O'Conner, Henry Parkes and Ivan Southall, to name only a few.
A handsome little find in an op shop priced at $1.00 but worth a great many times that amount for the rich gems between the covers.
