Silver Brumbies of the South
First published in 1965 the Silver Brumby books have lost none of their appeal for many generations of children.
Silver Brumbies of the South is only one of many books in the Silver Brumby series Elyne Mitchell penned, writing from the horses perspective and giving people a glimpse into the High Country surrounds in which these particular wild horses, and the author herself, lived.
Some have criticised the author for anthropomophising animals in her stories but, as this has become a common practice with many subjects in recent years, it doesn't detract from the underlying tale in each of her books which is to share the driving factors behind behaviours of wild animals.
Many of Elyne Mitchell books are on the Reading Challenge lists, each of them a wonderful story for kids to escape into.
