The Railways Of Australia

First published in 1984, The Railways Of Australia traces the story of the current-day extensive railway system we enjoy from it's very birth.

First proposed in 1846, the eventual building of the railways helped to further build and contribute to the growth of the nation as a whole, with railways opening up isolated areas, allowing industry to expand and to increase business and employment in many areas apart from just passenger services.

The various stages of the railways throughout Australia are here for the reader to discover; the different colonies determining their own track gauges, private railway companies buying up land and opening train lines, the narrow gauge and broad gauge systems stopping and starting travellers at the borders of each state, and much more.
