This audiobook version of The Mystery of a Hansom Cab, an old Australian classic murder mystery, kept my son awake long after his bedtime, reminiscent of the old radio serial days when boys would fight to stay awake just to hear the next installment of the thriller.
So it was with this; each night was another chapter/CD in the story, describing a Melbourne of long ago but which still peeps through the years every now and then.
The mystery kept my father on his toes, too, demanding to go to bed early just to hear the next CD.
Fergus Hume is a bit of a mystery himself with little publicity or knowledge of his personal life available today and, although he was determined to write and write well, he just never seemed to hit his strides in the publishing world, although his works are still fabulous reads today.
Fergus Hume certainly was a prolific author, judging by the bibliography attributed to him on his entry of Wikipedia.
I'd highly recommend this book, in both paper and audiobook form, for anyone who enjoys a good thriller.
